Odds and  ends

Supporting partner, after a suit bid, with 11-12 points

Make sure you are happy with the preamble which precedes the 6-8 point scenario.

This is the classic double raise (1H-3H or 1D-3D etc ) encouraging partner to game if she is towards the top end of her opening bid. Opposition bidding need not deter you here, but, as ever, your problem in a competitive auction may be deciding when to stop.

S 975 Raise 1H to 3H. This is the simplest case, shorn of any trimmings.

D J 5 4
C 3 2
If right-hand opponent intervenes with 1 S after partner's opening 1H, you can upgrade your hand , which now becomes worth 4H. With opponents vulnerable, and you not, a double might cross your mind.

S 975 Better than  hand one above but still 1H-3H.

Give yourself two ten spots and you are worth 4H.

S K92 After 1D, 1H is better than 3D.You can jump later if partner's rebid justifies it.

S 975 1D-3D cannot be faulted, but where is poor partner to go ? The odds are  she will have a No-trump rebid in mind, and   you will make it easier for her if your response is 2C,another waiting bid !

Dummy's duty

During the play, dummy's duty is to prevent any irregularity by declarer, as in warning him against leading from the wrong hand. It is singularly unhelpful to highlight an error by declarer (such as leading from the wrong hand) after it has happened.

In rubber bridge, any player may query of any other, when he has failed to follow suit, whether he has a card of the suit led. At duplicate, however, this query may only be asked by dummy of declarer.
