There are five cases to consider, depending on responder's point count.
Consider the case of responder holding 6-8 points.
A simple raise is good enough. Partner will not bid on unless she has a good hand.
| S K432 | Raise 1S to 2S. Intervention by opponents should not stop you making this bid, but if the opponents have a suit of their own, your problem may be deciding when to stop. |

Raise 1H to 2H. If partner bids 3H, she is inviting you to game if you are maximum. You are, so bid 4H. |

I hate people who think that my dummy is untidy, and kindly start rearranging it. Dummy belongs to ME and the law clearly states ' No player shall touch any cards other than his own (but declarer can touch dummy's cards in accordance with the law), during or after play, except by permission of the director'. |
