Answer to (3) : 8-9 points.
What is declarer's likely line of play with the dummy shown in the
cases below and how will this affect your defence?

The contract is four hearts. |
Answer to (4) : Declarer is probably going to take advantage
of dummy's shortage in spades by ruffing in. You must do your best to
prevent this by leading trumps.

The contract is three no-trumps. |
Answer to (5) : Declarer will try to make a lot of tricks
from the diamond suit. You must try to stop this by holding up your
ace and attacking his entry in hearts as soon as you have the chance.

|
The contract is four hearts. |
Answer to (6) : There are two possibilities
here. Declarer will clearly try to take tricks with his splendid
diamond suit. It may pay you to attack clubs early and remove the
clubs in his hand, or it may be best to cash your winners in clubs and
spades before they are discarded on the diamonds.
Difficult decision!

(7) You are on lead at trick two with the
dummy shown. You have taken trick one with the ace of clubs.
Will you be active or passive? |
Answer to (7) : Passive. Partner clearly has nothing. You
want your remaining honours to capture something so probably a
diamond is best

(8) You have led the ace of hearts to
trick one. Partner plays the eight of hearts, declarer and
dummy following small. Will you be active or passive at trick
two? |
Answer to (8) : Active. Your initial lead was in the hope
that partner was short in this suit, and her '8' and the sight of
dummy seem to confirm this. Play the king to confirm partner's peter,
and the a third heart to get a ruff.

(9) South's rebid shows
12-14 points. You decide that there is no future in clubs and
lead the ace of hearts, partner playing the eight , dummy and
declarer folowing small. Will you be active or passive at
trick two |
|
Answer to (9) : Active. Partner has more points than
you. Your initial club lead, attempting to hit partner's suit,
seems to have worked. Continue with another heart.
