Historical Snippet

Two types of contract bridge are played in this country, rubber and duplicate. Rubber Bridge takes its name from the scoring in that two games constitute a rubber for which there is a substantial bonus. Rubber bridge is usually played at home with friends where partnerships are often determined by the cut of the cards. Duplicate is the competitive form of the game played in clubs and competitions where the same hands are preserved and played at a number of
tables. The scoring then reflects how well a particular partnership has bid and played their cards, compared with the performance of other pairs with the same cards.
