After partner has opened one of a suit and you bid your own suit

If you cannot support your partner (the S of SYN), your next choice will be to bid your own suit which you may be contemplating at the one or the two level. There are several issues  to consider here, and we look at them below.

(R1_11)    at the one level (1H-1S)

(R1_12)     at the two level (1S-2C)

(R1-13)    bidding two hearts over one spade (1S-2H)

(R1_14)    making a jump shift (1H-2S; 1C-2D etc)
